Norway is not traditionally associated with hop-saturated modern craft beer, yet Salikatt have become one of Scandinavia’s most respected breweries by doing exactly that.

Based in Stavanger, the brewery built its reputation around heavily hopped pale ales and IPAs inspired by modern American brewing while maintaining a distinctly Scandinavian sense of balance. The beers are aromatic and expressive without feeling completely out of control.

Expect plenty of tropical fruit, citrus and soft texture throughout the range. Mosaic, Citra and newer hop varieties feature heavily, but there is usually enough bitterness and structure underneath to keep things grounded.

The brewery also produces lagers, stouts and seasonal releases, often showing the same attention to detail as the hop-forward beers. Good lager brewing remains one of the quickest ways to tell whether a brewery really knows what it is doing.

Salikatt helped establish Norway as a serious player in modern craft beer rather than simply a country with expensive pints and impressive scenery.
