The grape adapts strongly to climate and winemaking style. In cooler and higher-altitude regions, Tempranillo often shows fresher acidity and red fruit character, while warmer areas produce deeper and fuller-bodied wines with darker fruit, softer tannin and greater concentration. Oak ageing also plays a major role in many traditional Spanish wines, adding notes of vanilla, cedar, tobacco and spice alongside Tempranillo’s natural savoury character.
